Like many of you, I have been watching movies while sheltering in place. I prefer lighter feel good movies. Mamma Mia and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again are two of my favorites. Every so often a scene or line captures my heart.
One of the scenes in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Tanya and Rosie try to console Sophie. In doing so, Rosie blurts out, “do what makes your soul shine.” She then seems somewhat surprised with her inner wisdom.
“Do What Makes Your Soul Shine” are impactful words.
How often do we do things that make us feel good? Happy?
Feeling good, appreciating what is going well helps us attract what we really, really want.
How often do we allow something to throw us off track? Annoy us? How often will we allow this annoying diversion to take over our out thoughts?
The past 8 or 9 weeks have been challenging. There are days I feel like I have been gut-punched. Some days I have had to reach deep inside to find something to feel good about. Not everything has been easy.
Each time I have found something to appreciate, something to feel good about, things became easier. I found listening to inspirational videos or reading before bedtime helpful.
I almost always listen to an inspirational video upon awakening. There is another I listen to frequently because I find the music calming.
I now intentionally focus on finding things to feel good about, things that make me smile.
The more I focus on finding things to feel good about, I notice more things are working out for me. I feel inspired, more creative, positive and can focus on things important to me.
I did not get to the place of feeling good alone. My brother literally reminded me to focus on things I can do.
I have had great teachers, wonderful mentors, who taught me the importance of doing the inner work. One literally held my hand 5 summers ago when I said goodbye to my mother.
When you feel like you have been gut-punched and are on a downward spiral, look for something to appreciate. Look for one thing to feel good about. It can be something simple like noticing a flower, a puffy cloud in the sky or petting your dog or cat.
When you find that one thing to feel good about, notice your energy. Take a moment to notice how you feel.
Know it is okay to ask for help. You are not alone.
