Today’s tip applies to networking. Yet, it is not networking specific. Many clients seek me out because they feel overwhelmed and stuck when networking. Sometimes the solution is found in developing skills. Other times, something else is going on that needs to be addressed. Most of the time, it’s a combination of the two. To quote my friend and mentor, Linda Binns, “what you think is the problem often is not the problem.”

What can do you do when you feel overwhelmed or stuck?

  • Acknowledge your feelings and accept where you are. Knowing where you are in this moment is your starting point for moving forward.
    Believe you can achieve it.
Look at the situation objectively. Realize you have options.
Think in solutions. (I thank my friend Kim for this suggestion).
Rewrite or re-frame your story. Check out my article “Stupid …..” for suggestions. “Stupid . . . Stupid . . .S.T.U.P.I.D” Do words matter?
Practice saying affirmations several times a day.

If you feel overwhelmed when networking, practice saying these affirmations.
“I network with confidence and ease,“ and “I attend events with love and joy.“

Believe it and you will achieve it.
Decide you want something different and commit to change.

Remember, one step forward can generate different results.
